Running a quiz: timing, points and the leaderboard

How the timer works, how points are scored, and how to show the leaderboard.

Starting a question

When a quiz slide is on the screen, the answers are hidden and phones show Get ready. Press Start the timer and everyone sees the answers at the same moment.

Points

A correct answer is worth up to 1,000 points: the full thousand for an instant answer, falling to 500 at the buzzer. A wrong answer, or no answer, scores nothing. The clock runs on our server, not on the phones, so a slow phone is never cheated of time, and an answer sent just before the buzzer still counts.

Revealing the answer

The answer is revealed when the timer runs out, or as soon as everyone in the room has answered, whichever comes first. You can also press Reveal now. Each phone then shows whether it was right, the points it scored and its place in the room.

The leaderboard

After the reveal, press Show leaderboard to put the top ten on the screen. Phones show the top five and highlight their own name.

Running a question again

Run again clears the answers on that slide, so you can repeat it. Scores from other questions are kept.
